You know that bittersweet feeling when you're burning the last of your favourite seasonal candle? That's exactly where I found myself not too long ago. As I watched the flame of my beloved winter scent flicker, I couldn't help but wish I could bottle up that cozy feeling for just a little longer.

Then it hit me - why not create something that captures the magic of each season, all year round? Something that brings a little slice of comfort and calm into our busy lives, no matter what the calendar says. And just like that, the idea for Little Batch Wax Co.'s candle subscription boxes was born.

I still remember the excitement (and, let's be honest, the nerves!) of putting together that very first box. I wanted to create more than just a candle - I wanted to craft an experience. Picture this: you're curled up in your favourite armchair, wrapped in that perfectly worn-in sweater. There's a fire crackling nearby, and maybe a little whisky in hand. That's the feeling I tried to capture in "Woollen Sweater," our very first subscription box scent.

Each box is like a little care package from New Zealand, complete with a locally shot postcard (because our country is just too beautiful not to share). It's our way of bringing a bit of magic right to your doorstep.

In this world of constant notifications and never-ending to-do lists, we all need a reminder to slow down. To take a deep breath. To connect - with ourselves, with nature, with each other. That's what these candle boxes are all about. They're an invitation to press pause, even if it's just for a moment, and find a little peace in your day.

Every time I pack up a box, I'm filled with gratitude. For the amazing people who've welcomed our scents into their homes. For the talented local artists and photographers we get to work with. For the chance to spread a little light and warmth in the world. It's more than just candles - it's about creating a little sanctuary, right in your own home.

What's Included in Your Subscription Box:

  • Premium Handcrafted Candle

  • A postcard featuring framable, local photography

  • Scent description card with journal prompts and a curated playlist

  • Surprise gifts in special editions (latte sachets, chocolates and other cosy gifts to compliment the theme of the box)

P.S. Our boxes tend to sell out quickly, so if you see a "sold out" notice, don't worry! Join our waitlist to be first in line for the next release.

As the fresh breeze of spring fills the air, it's the perfect time to breathe new life into your kitchen. Today, we're focusing on a simple yet transformative project: revamping your pantry with upcycled glass jars.

Why Upcycled Glass Jars?

1. Sustainability: Reusing jars reduces waste and your carbon footprint.

2. Cost-effective: Thrift stores and op shops offer affordable options. (I found these for

$5 each. After a good scrub they were good as new)!

3. Aesthetics: Creates a cohesive, visually appealing pantry.

4. Practicality: Easily see and access your ingredients.

Steps to Refresh Your Pantry:

1. Declutter and Clean

- Remove all items from your pantry

- Wipe down shelves and surfaces

- Check expiration dates and discard old items

2. Source Your Jars

- Visit local thrift stores or op shops

- Look for various sizes to accommodate different ingredients

- Ensure lids seal properly

3. Prepare the Jars

- Thoroughly clean and dry each jar

- Remove old labels (tip: use a mixture of baking soda and oil)

- Sanitize in boiling water or the dishwasher

4. Organize and Fill

- Group similar items together (e.g., baking supplies, grains, snacks)

- Transfer dry goods like flour, oats, rice, and coffee into jars

- Label each jar clearly

5. Arrange Your Pantry

- Place frequently used items at eye level

- Use shelf risers or lazy Susans for added accessibility

- Consider adding hooks for measuring cups or small tools

Refreshing your pantry with up-cycled glass jars is a simple yet impactful way to welcome spring. It not only organises your space but also adds a touch of charm to your kitchen.

Plus, you'll be doing your part for the environment while creating a more functional cooking area.

It's Restaurant Month here in New Zealand, but if you're watching your wallet (aren't we all?), we've got the perfect hack for a restaurant-quality, cosy night in with your friends.

Here's how to create a restaurant-quality cheeseboard for a cozy night in with friends, without breaking the bank.

ree

The Game Plan: Decide if you want to provide the entire spread yourself or make it a group effort by assigning each friend a component. Both options work great - it's all about what suits you and your friends best.

Here are 5 easy tips to create a stunning spread for your next ladies' night:

  1. Cheeses!

You can't have a cheeseboard without cheese. Variety is key, aim for a mix of textures and flavours:

  • A creamy dream: Brie or Camembert

  • Something sharp: Aged Cheddar or Gouda

  • Bold and beautiful: Blue cheese (for the brave!)

Pro tip: Check out the "reduced" section at your local supermarket for some budget-friendly finds!

2. Sweet Sensations

Balance out those savoury flavours with a touch of sweetness:

  • Fresh fruits: Grapes, sliced pears, or figs if you're feeling fancy

  • A pot of honey: Drizzle over that brie for a heavenly experience

  • Dried fruits: Apricots or cranberries add a chewy texture

3. Crunch Time

No cheeseboard is complete without some textural contrast:

Crackers: Mix it up with water crackers, seeded crisps, and maybe some breadsticks

Nuts: Almonds, walnuts, or pecans scattered artfully around

Veggie sticks: Carrot and cucumber for a fresh crunch

4. Meat the Challenge (Optional)

For the carnivores in your crew:

  • Prosciutto: Draped elegantly for that Insta-worthy look

  • Salami: Sliced or fanned out

  • Chorizo: For a spicy kick

5. The Final Flourish

Make it a feast for the eyes:

  • Small bowls: Fill with olives, pickles, or a zesty chutney

  • Fresh herbs: Sprigs of rosemary or thyme for color and aroma

  • Edible flowers: If you're feeling extra bougie!

Setting the Mood

Table décor: Raid your linen closet or local thrift store for a pretty sheet to use as a tablecloth

Illumination: Light your favourite Little Batch candles for that warm, inviting glow

Tunes: Put on our Slow Burn playlist for the perfect background ambiance

Bonus Round: Seasonal Sips!

Why not serve some mulled wine or a signature cocktail to really elevate the evening?

So, gather your girls, uncork that bottle of wine, and get ready for a night of cheesy goodness and heartwarming company. Who needs a fancy restaurant when you can create this slice of heaven right at home?

Cheers to good friends, good food, and the joy of staying in.
